👀 The Headliner: We Have Our Conference Champions 🏆

The storyline that stole the show this weekend.

Congrats to the conference champions below!

  • America East: UAlbany

  • ASUN: Air Force

  • Atlantic 10: Richmond

  • Big East: Georgetown

  • Big Ten: Ohio State

  • CAA: Towson

  • Ivy League: Cornell

  • MAAC: Siena

  • NEC: Robert Morris

  • Patriot League: Colgate

A quick recap of games:

American East: Albany beats Bryant 12-7

Ryan Doherty and Silas Richmond both tallied hat tricks to lead the Great Danes to back-to-back America East titles.

They’ll play Siena in a play-in game and the winner will face No. 1 Cornell on Sunday evening. I expect Albany to win that game, and one of my predictions for the season was that the Great Danes would upset a team in the first round and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals.

That’s looking unlikely, but I still think they could give the Big Red a scare like they did with top-seeded Notre Dame last season.

ASUN: Air Force beats Utah 11-10

After starting 2-7 and losing their first conference game to Jacksonville, the Falcons have won six straight, avenging their loss to the Dolphins in the conference semifinals and knocking off Utah in the finals.

Junior attackman Caelan Driggs had four goals in both games while Luke Vrsansky’s lefty missile in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.

Goalie Jake Marek had 14 saves and was named championship MVP as Air Force has claimed its first ASUN conference title and will make its fourth NCAA tournament appearance.

A10: Richmond beats High Point 16-10

The Spiders have completed the conference sweep!

Propelled by freshman midfielder Daniel Picart’s first career hat trick, Richmond would not be denied.

If you’ve been following this newsletter this season, you know where I stand on the Spiders.

It’s time for them to win an NCAA tournament game.

And what an opportunity to do so against North Carolina on Saturday.

Big East: Georgetown beats Villanova 16-8

The Hoyas seventh Big East title in a row.

Many (myself included) thought a team like Providence could create parity in the conference this season.

Wrong.

Aidan Carroll had 8 goals in a pretty dominant conference title win over Villanova.

Big Ten: Ohio State beats Maryland 14-10

Like Richmond, the Buckeyes completed the conference sweep on Saturday evening against the Terps.

Ohio State had five players (Griffin Turner, Garrett Haas, Jack McKenna, Alex Marinier, Liam White) with multiple goals while goalie Caleb Fyock had 19 saves.

Their depth of scoring and outstanding play of Fyock right now make Ohio State one of the favorites to win it all - but they have a TOUGH first round matchup in Notre Dame.

CAA: Towson beats Drexel 13-10

Mikey Weisshaar and Ronan Fitzpatrick each had 5 points to lift the Tigers to back-to-back titles.

Towson has won ten straight games now, and while they get a tough first round matchup in the NCAA Tournament in Princeton, anything can happen.

Ivy League: Cornell beats Princeton 20-15

Insane game.

The Big Red’s attack unit of CJ Kirst, Ryan Goldstein and Michael Long combined for 44 points in two games.

We need this rematch somehow. It would be in the Championship game, but that works for me.

MAAC: Siena beats Sacred Heart 12-8

Pratt Reynolds 5 goals helped lift the Saints to their fourth NCAA tournament appearance.

NEC: Robert Morris beats Detriot Mercy 17-8

After a miraclous come from behind victory against LIU on Thursday, the Colonials handled business on Saturday.

Calum Brennan followed up his 8 goal performance against LIU with another 4 against Detroit Mercy as Bo Columbus won 75% at the faceoff and the Colonials had 11 different goal scorers.

Patriot League: Colgate beats Boston University 17-10

As has been the case all year, the Raiders relied on their offensive superstars to put up big numbers and they didn’t disappoint.

Hunter Drouin (4G, 2A), Rory Connor (2G, 3A) and Liam Connor (4G) led the way.

🤝 The Supporting Cast

The things that weren't maybe the star of the weekend, but still important.

1. NCAA Tournament is Set

The schedule below:

Saturday, May 10:

No. 8 North Carolina vs Richmond at 12:00 PM

No. 3 Princeton vs Towson at 2:30 PM

No. 5 Penn State vs Colgate at 5:00 PM

No. 7 Duke vs Georgetown at 7:30 PM

Sunday, May 11:

No. 6 Syracuse vs Harvard at 5:00 PM

No. 1 Cornell vs Siena/Albany winner at 7:30 PM

North Carolina vs Richmond, Duke vs Georgetown, and Ohio State vs Notre Dame figure to be the games of the weekend.

I don’t have a ton of takes about winners, final scores or anything else. I just want to be some good lacrosse and high drama!

🎯 Quick Hits

The weekend's standout plays, hustle moments, and everything in between.

Syracuse’s Finn Thomson with the BTB.

Maryland’s Braden Erksa with the one-handed pass.

Princeton’s Nate Kabiri stinging a corner.

📈 On the Rise

Spotlighting players and teams who are setting themselves up for big things ahead.

1. Graham Stevens (Goalie - Harvard) 🛑

Stevens was absolutely lights out in Harvard’s semifinal loss to Princeton.

He had 18 saves, a career high for the freshman, most of which were really good looks from Tiger shooters.

He’s heating up at the right time and will need another big game if the Crimson look to knock off Syracuse in the first round.

2. Chuck Kuczynski (LSM - Syracuse) 🍊

Long overdue, I’ve been impressed with Kuczynksi’s tenacity this season.

He never shys away from a matchup and every game I watch, he always seems to come up with a massive groundball.

An unsung hero for the Orange, he’ll need to have a big tournament if the Orange want to go all the way.
